Eastern Bank Chairman and CEO Richard E. Holbrook will be honored by the Irish International Immigrant Center (IIIC) along with two other philanthropists hailed as champions of immigrants and refugees.

The IIIC will present Holbrook, Sister Lena Deevy and Susan J. Cohen Esq. with the 2014 Solas Award in an event late in October.

Named from the Gaelic word for "light," the Solas Awards are presented annually to individuals whose work is inspirational and who are committed to giving back to their communities, the organization said in a statement. Past recipients include former President Bill Clinton, former Irish Presidents Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson, the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, former Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Rev. Liz Walker.

In a statement announcing the award ceremony, the IIIC praised Holbrook’s leadership of Eastern Bank and noted the bank’s corporate social responsibility and support for IIIC’s work, as well its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Deevy, the IIIC said, has long been a champion of immigrants, especially during her 24 years of leadership at the IIIC.

Cohen, the founder and chair of the immigration practice at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., was praised for her own work with refugees, asylees and low-income immigrants.

The awards celebration is scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
