Everett-based Teles Construction Inc. has been debarred for three months and must pay close to $55,000 in restitution and penalties because it violated the state’s wage and hour, prevailing wage and independent contractor laws.

Fourty-four workers will receive almost $40,000 in restitution from the construction company and its president, Juliano Teles, according to the attorney general’s office. A $15,000 penalty must also be paid to the state. Teles Construction has also been debarred for three months, rendering them unable to bid on, contract with or work on any public works construction projects in Massachusetts, according to Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office.

"All workers deserve to be paid in accordance with the law, and our office will hold accountable any employer that tries to deny his or her employees the wages they are owed," said Coakley.
