Fairlawn Plaza at Route 9 and Maple Avenue in Shrewsbury will be torn down and redeveloped into a 230,000-square-foot mixed-use project expected to break ground in late 2014 or early 2015.

Project developer Samuel Adams of Plaza Properties and Bodhi Ventures said the project will be the first phase of a multi-property lifestyle center to be called The Grove Shrewsbury.

The entire project will cover 40 acres and contain 800,000 square feet of retail, restaurants, a multiplex theater, fitness center, apartments and Class A office space.

"Projects of this type are new to the region and The Grove Shrewsbury will truly be unique in the marketplace. A lifestyle destination with this magnitude, diversity and tenant roster are unprecedented in the area," Adams said in a statement.
