Protectowire FireSystems, a fire protection firm opened in 1938, has relocated to a 28,000-square-foot facility at 60 Washington St. in Pembroke.
Protectowire President and CEO Andrew Sullivan said that the new facility was designed to accommodate the company’s growth, which has been significant over the last two decades. The company invested several years and nearly $4 million in its new home, located adjacent to where the firm got its start nearly 75 years ago.
For the past five years, Protectowire’s temporary home was at a rented facility in Plymouth. Prior to that, Protectowire operated from the historic Captain Turner facility, located near where its new building sits. The property dates to 1733 and includes an historic barn, which remains part of the Protectowire campus today. The barn has been restored to a working facility and offers horse-and-buggy rides for Protectowire’s visitors from around the world.
"In a sense, this is a homecoming for Protectowire," Sullivan said, noting that the company’s 5-acre campus is adjacent to two other pieces of property held by his family.
The new, two-floor building features a significantly expanded manufacturing and warehouse area, as well as a new training center where Protectowire will hold seminars twice a year.
