A former executive at Beverly Hospital has pleaded not guilty to charges that he accepted bribes and kickbacks from contractors involved in a $50 million hospital renovation, and stole valuable antiques.

Paul Galzerano was released on personal recognizance after his arraignment Thursday in Salem Superior Court on charges of commercial bribery and larceny over $250.

Prosecutors say between 2003 and 2006 the 58-year-old Groveland man, the associate vice president of support services at the hospital, solicited and received kickbacks and bribes totaling nearly $500,000. The contractors allegedly paid some of Galzerano’s bills and performed work on his home.

Prosecutors allege hospital-owned antiques that were supposed to be put in storage ended up in Galzerano’s home.

His lawyer says he is not a flight risk. (AP)
