A former Citizens Bank teller will serve 27 months in prison for embezzling nearly $400,000 from elderly citizens.

Between February 2008 and January 2012, Maria DaSilva, 54, of Smithfield, R.I., embezzled more than $375,000 from the accounts of three elderly bank customers by forging withdrawal slips on various accounts they had. DaSilva worked as a teller at Citizens Bank’s North Attleboro branch.

She will serve 36 months of supervised release when she gets out of prison, and U.S. District Judge Richard Stearns ordered her to pay $377,926 in restitution.

The Lakeville Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy Sternberg of Ortiz’s Economic Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
