Heidi Brooks has been named senior vice president and director of charitable giving at Citizens Financial Group Inc.
In her new role, Brooks will oversee philanthropy programs throughout the communities in Citizens’ 12-state footprint. She will be based in Boston, according to a statement.
Through the foundation, Citizens supports nonprofit groups focused on housing and community development. In 2009, the foundation provided support to more than 2,000 organizations, according to a statement.
Prior to joining Citizens, Brooks was director of community relations at John Hancock Financial Services, where she represented the company in community relations activities, managed her department’s finances and oversaw $11 million in cash and in-kind giving annually. She also developed and managed the MLK Summer Scholars program, Hancock collaboration with The Boston Globe and Boston University that provided 650 summer jobs to Boston teens.
She serves as a Year-Up mentor, a trustee of Youth Enrichment Services and a member of the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board, which advises Gov. Deval Patrick on policy issues. Before coming to Boston, Brooks spent several years spent managing and evaluating international development projects in West Africa, Central America and Southeast Asia.
Brooks has a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College, a master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
