C. Russell DeMartino has joined Lexington-based Bierbrier Development Inc., a developer and owner of urban shopping centers in Eastern Massachusetts, as vice president of development.
In his new position, DeMartino will be responsible for acquisitions and mixed-use retail development projects, as well as leasing and sales for new and existing assets. He is charged with broadening the scope of the company’s Village Retail concept, a format first introduced in Arlington with Bierbrier’s Arlington Village Shops, according to a statement.
The concept of Village Retail is to create LEED-certified service/convenience shopping centers with ample parking within the retail cluster of dense communities in Eastern Massachusetts, the company said.
DeMartino previously served as vice president of development and leasing for Vornado Realty Trust in Boston, with oversight of all of Vornado’s assets in New England. Prior to that, he served as director of retail development and leasing for Vornado, a $20 billion New York-based real estate investment trust, at its New Jersey office.
DeMartino is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., and Harvard Business School.
