Stoltze Design of Boston on Wednesday unveiled a series of options for signs and banners in Fort Point ChannelThe Fort Point Channel neighborhood in South Boston has become a magnet for trendy gastropubs, high-tech start-ups and loft-style apartments in recent years, but neighborhood activists say it still lacks a distinct visual trademark.

A graphic design company Wednesday unveiled its ideas for logos that could be used on street banners and murals throughout Fort Point. Clif Stoltze, founder of Boston-based Stoltze Design, presented renderings of banners with catchphrases such as "Get To the Point," "Point of Views" and "Point and Click," and murals highlighting the neighborhood’s industrial history and current attractions. One proposed logo showed the phrase "Boston’s Historic Fort Point Neighborhood" spelled out in blocky black letters against a white background and the initials "FP" inside a circle flanked by the phrase "Est. 1863."

The Friends of Fort Point Channel neighborhood group commissioned the work from Stoltze Design last year. The signs are being evaluated for installation on buildings, sidewalks and median strips on major thoroughfares such as A Street and Congress Street. Some of the murals could be projected onto the sides of buildings at night, Stoltze said.

Danielle Pillion, executive director of the non-profit group, said it will ask for feedback from neighborhood residents and businesses before settling on final designs and beginning a fundraising campaign. It plans to seek approval from the Fort Point Landmark Commission and the city of Boston this spring. The signs could go up later this year.
