Four groups are interested in taking over the legendary Minot’s Ledge Light from the Coast Guard, which no longer wants it.
The lighthouse, claimed by both Scituate and Cohasset, has guided ships around a treacherous reef since 1860.
A deadline for submitting a letter of interest passed Wednesday. Three of the interested groups, the towns of Scituate and Cohasset and the Scituate Historical Society, plan to work together.
But Cohasset Town Manager Bill Griffin told The Patriot Ledger of Quincy there are issues to resolve, including costs.
Federal officials didn’t identify the fourth interested group.
Minot’s Ledge Light was originally built in 1850, but collapsed during a storm in 1851, killing two lightkeepers and starting decades worth of ghost stories.
