Voters in Foxborough have voted in favor of funding a major renovation for the town’s high school.

The 550 to 12 vote marks the first time the town has voted to override the state’s proposition 2 1/2 debt exclusion and assume $10.4 million of the estimated $20 million project cost. The remainder of the balance will be paid by the state.

Kaestle Boos Assoc. has been retained as the project architect.

"This is a very important project to the citizens of Foxborough and I congratulate them on their decision to move forward with it," says Michael McKeon, vice president of Kaestle Boos Assoc., which has its Massachusetts regional offices in the town and recently designed the town’s new public safety facility. "The high school is nearly 40 years old and requires significant updating to meet the educational needs of the 21st century."

The project is estimated to be completed by 2011 and will include asbestos abatement, the replacement of the building’s roof and windows, upgrades to the heating and air conditioning and fire alarm systems, science lab renovations and the replacement of the gym floor.
