The money will go toward town-related exhibits and programming for the celebration. The Framingham History Center plans to use the services of a museum educator as part of its planning for "The Civil War in Framingham ¬2011" initiative. It hopes to raise $25,000 for the project.

"We believe that with proper planning and staffing, Framingham can become a destination during the upcoming sesquicentennial of the war," said Annie Murphy, executive director of the Framingham History Center.

The charitable foundation’s award to support the Civil War project was included in the total of $41,000 awarded to support community initiatives in the most recent round of funding, according to a statement.
