Barney FrankHarborOne Credit Union will open an education center named HarborOne U this week, aimed to help residents with financial planning.

Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, will be on hand on Friday at 11 a.m. to open the center, believed to be the only one of its kind in the country, according to a statement.

HarborOne U, located at 131 Copeland Drive in Mansfield, will offer financial education, including youth financial literacy programs, first-time homebuyers’ seminars, credit counseling and classes on retirement and estate planning.

HarborOne U stems from HarborOne’s Multicultural Banking Center in Brockton. The center was opened in September 2007 to provide low- and moderate- income residents with access to financial information to help them avoid predatory lenders and assist those facing foreclosure.

More than 2,000 people have taken advantage of the courses at the center. HarborOne U will offer seminars and classes on personal finance, as well as life and career management services and small business assistance.
