Gilbane Building Co. has been selected by the town of Longmeadow to provide construction manager at risk services for its new $60 million high school and renovation project.

The project will include a new 185,000-square-foot high school, which will tie into the 1971 portion of the current Longmeadow High School, which is also being renovated as part of the project, according to a statement.

The finished project will include academic as well as public use spaces including an auditorium, media center, cafeteria, performance gymnasium, fitness center and athletic fields. Design and construction will focus on creating a high performance building that will make efficient use of winter solar gain and day lighting in the academic wing, which with energy consumption monitoring will exceed energy code requirements with an anticipated reduction of energy costs by 20 percent to 25 percent.

During construction, a waste management system will be in use for on-site recycling and reuse, HEPA vacuuming and dust protection.

The $60 million scope of work will also include the renovation and relocation of the district’s central administration offices, new parking lots, driveways, athletic fields and extensive site work. The architect is OMR Architects. Joslin Lesser + Assoc. Inc will serve as the owner’s project manager. The multi-phased project will last approximately 2 ½ years.

"Our staff takes great pride in contributing to the communities in which they live and work. When building a high school facility, we know that we are directly contributing to our children’s future. Gilbane and its staff, including those who live in Longmeadow are excited to help this community grow and prosper," said Ryan Hutchins, senior vice president and New England regional manager. "Longmeadow High School will provide spaces that drive learning and facilitate creativity for years to come. I am grateful for the education that I received at Longmeadow High School and I look forward to helping the team create an environment for others to learn and thrive."
