As it prepares to vacate its longtime Morrissey Boulevard headquarters, The Boston Globe has agreed to buy a 330,000-square-foot industrial property in Taunton for the future location of its printing plant.

The Globe plans to acquire 300 Constitution Drive in Taunton, CEO Michael Sheehan announced. The move will take place in early 2017, the Globe reported.

Princeton, N.J.-based Chambers Street Properties acquired the property in 2004 for $19.75 million. It was most recently occupied by Boston Apparel Group, the parent company of the Chadwick’s of Boston clothing catalog.

Concord-based developer Winstanley Enterprises is expected to acquire the Globe’s 16.5-acre Morrissey Boulevard site that it has occupied since 1958. The newspaper has hired Colliers International to find 150,000 square feet in Boston for its newsroom and business offices.

In addition to the Globe, the printing operation is used to publish the Boston Herald, Patriot Ledger and local editions of The New York Times.
