Greater Boston hotels reported an occupancy surge of 8.7 percent, a 5.7-percent increase in average daily rates and a 14.9-percent rise in revenue per available room in December when compared with the same period in 2011, according to a hospitality industry research group.
The 90 hotel operators that responded to a PKF Hospitality Research survey achieved average occupancy of 53.2 percent at a $142.82 average daily rate, resulting in $76.03 revenue per available room (RevPAR).
For December 2012, RevPAR increases were primarily driven by growth in occupancy for the Back Bay, Downtown, Route 128 and I-495 North submarkets. The Back Bay and I-495 North submarkets led occupancy growth with 21.1 percent and 10.2 percent increases, respectively, according to PKF.
However, occupancy in the I-495 South hotel submarket dropped 2.7 percent.
Even so, compared to the past seven Decembers, 2012’s Greater Boston hotels performance was the highest in occupancy, average daily rate and RevPAR since 2007, according to PKF.
