CitizensUnionLogoFall River’s Citizens~Union Savings Bank is changing its name and offering a $2,500 cash prize to whoever guesses it correctly.

In a statement, the bank said the name change is an opportunity to re-brand and re-shape its presence in the South Coast community following the merger that brought the four-branch Bank of Fall River under its umbrella.

Earlier this year, Citizens~Union Savings Bank and Bank of Fall River, both based in Fall River, merged, creating a combined financial institution with $861 million in assets, $680 million in deposits and 250 employees through a 14-branch network, according to a statement.

The bank’s contest challenges everyone to guess the new name before it is officially announced. The public will be directed to Citizens~Union and Bank of Fall River websites or their branches to complete a "fill in the blank" entry form. Over eight weeks, anyone who guesses the new name will be entered into a weekly drawing to win gift cards and will also be entered into the grand prize drawing to win $2,500 cash. The bank will officially announce the new name at end of the contest in mid-October. The changeover to the new name will take place in January.

Citizens~Union Savings Bank CEO Nicholas Christ said the new name will better reflect the geographic region that the bank serves and also eliminate some of the market confusion with banks that share part of their name.

"Our new name will clearly establish us in this market and help us promote the bank and this region we call home," he said.
