harbor_oneBrockton’s HarborOne Credit Union has received the community credit union of the year award in the asset category of $250 million and above by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

The award was presented at the Community Credit Union and Growth Conference held in Boston. It represents the second time this year HarborOne has earned national recognition for its efforts. The credit union also won the National Credit Union Foundation’s Wegner Award as outstanding organization in February, according to a statement.

Among other things, the Credit Union National Association recognized HarborOne for its MultiCultural Banking Center, bringing financial literacy and other resources to the un- and underbanked; for its highly successful employee volunteer program, which gave local non-profits more than 3,500 hours of service; and for its many programs aimed at community outreach.

In accepting the award, Leo MacNeil, HarborOne senior vice president of community relations, praised the credit union board for its long-standing visionary understanding of the importance of integrating community support with business objectives.
