Haverhill Bank will soon open its first New Hampshire branch in Salem, N.H.  The new location is in a planned 22,000-square-foot retail plaza along Route 97 at the Methuen and Salem border.

The Salem Planning Board gave conditional approval last week to the plaza at 389-396 Main St. and 5 Hampstead Road the former site of the Green Barn restaurant. Thur Ken II of Salem is the developer.

Haverhill Bank plans two drive-up teller lanes and a drive-up ATM lane. The bank branch will have six to eight employees.

"This is an exciting time for Haverhill Bank and its customers. The Route 97 location, just outside of Haverhill’s border, has been underserved by financial institutions. I am pleased to respond to this need and deliver greater convenience to consumers and business alike," Haverhill Bank President and CEO Thomas L. Mortimer said in a statement.

The new branch must still be approved by bank regulators.
