Haverhill Bank recently donated a treasure chest filled with $350 in $1 gold coins to Ruth’s House Inc. of Haverhill, which provides clothing to those in need.
The treasure chest was initially used as part of Haverhill Bank’s booth at the Cross Border Expo in late October. Booth visitors, after completing a treasure hunt, were given a chance to draw from more than 1,000 keys. If the key they drew fit the lock on the treasure chest, the attendee would win the chest and its contents. In nearly 200 attempts, no one drew the winning key.
"Since the winning key wasn’t drawn at the Expo, we thought it made sense to donate the treasure chest to a local charity," Haverhill Bank President and CEO Thomas Mortimer said in a statement. "We chose Ruth’s House for the tremendous amount of work they do in the community. Their efforts have resulted in many of the area’s most needy having clean, warm and dry clothing, and shoes."
