John F. Heaps Jr., president and CEO of Florence Savings Bank, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the Woburn-based Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF).
Heaps has been president and CEO of Florence Savings Bank, based in Northampton, since 1995. He has served on the DIF board of directors since 2010. He is a director of the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts and chairman of the Western Massachusetts Sports Commission. He is also on the board of directors of Savings Bank Life Insurance.
In addition to Heaps’s appointment, Patrick J. Murray Jr., president and CEO of Bristol County Savings Bank, and Margaret H. Kelly, an executive consultant and former community development leader, have been elected to the DIF board.
Murray has been president and CEO of Taunton-based Bristol County Savings Bank since 2012. He serves on the Massachusetts Bankers Association’s Federal Legislative Committee and State Legislative Committee. He is also a trustee of the Bristol Community College Foundation and a director of the United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton.
Kelly served as COO of the Washington, D.C.-based Neighborhood Reinvestment Corp. from 2002 to 2004 and as acting executive director in 2003-2004. Since 2005, she has been an independent consultant and an executive coach to nonprofit CEOs at Harvard’s Kennedy School and in private practice.
