A more than 25 percent increase in deposits and an almost 11 percent jump in loans have more than helped to offset a $1 million provision for loan losses so far this year at Hingham Institution for Savings.

The result was an almost 25 percent jump in net income at the bank, to just over $3.5 million in the first half of 2009 compared to $2.7 million in the first half of last year.
Through June 30, deposits at the Hingham bank stood at $585.9 million dollars, while total loans increased to $692 million dollars.

In the second quarter alone, net income jumped 43 percent compared to the second quarter of last year, to just over $2 million from about $1.4 million last year.
