The funding, which was raised by individual contributions from HMFH employees and matched by the firm, will be invested to provide quality, affordable programs for children and to create opportunities for families to regain financial stability, according to a statement.

"In a time when many people are tightening their belts, it is especially heartening to see firms like HMFH significantly increase their contribution to the community," said Michael Durkin, president of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. "We are grateful to everyone at HMFH for stepping up to ensure that Massachusetts children and families have the support they need."

"In our everyday practice HMFH is deeply committed to working with local communities to design opportunities for learning of all kinds," said George Metzger, senior principal, HMFH Architects. "We are equally committed to building stronger communities by assisting local families and their children through our support of the United Way campaign."
