Cambridge-based HMFH Architects has donated $16,000 to the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley to help local families recover from the economic crisis.

The funding, which was raised by individual contributions from HMFH employees and matched by the firm, will be invested to provide quality, affordable programs for children and to create opportunities for families to regain financial stability, according to a statement.

"In a time when many people are tightening their belts, it is especially heartening to see firms like HMFH significantly increase their contribution to the community," said Michael Durkin, president of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. "We are grateful to everyone at HMFH for stepping up to ensure that Massachusetts children and families have the support they need."
