A Holbrook man accused of robbing three Boston area banks over a three-week period this summer appeared in U.S. District Court this week.

Edward Stone is charged with robbing two TD Bank branches in Braintree and one in Hingham during a three-week period in June. A grand jury returned an indictment against Stone at the end of July, U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz’s office said, and Stone appeared in court Monday.

The charging statute provides a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of $250,000 and restitution in the approximate amount of $18,000. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The Massachusetts State Police investigated the case, along with the Boston FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and the Braintree and Hingham police departments.
