A Hopkinton-based solar energy developer is building out its New England presence with its purchase of a Kansas City developer’s Northeast division.

Solect Energy announced that it recently acquired Brightergy’s Boston-based Northeast business. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in the announcement. Brightergy had decided to sell off its Northeast division so it could narrow its focus to electric utility clients nationwide and commercial clients in the Midwest. Brightergy has completed more than 1,500 commercial solar projects.

“We’re very excited to welcome Brightergy’s Northeast division to Solect,” Solect Co-Founder and CEO Ken Driscoll said in a statement. “This move will strengthen Solect’s expertise in commercial solar and energy management, deepen our service offerings, and help the company continue to deliver smart clean energy solutions and cost savings to businesses and institutions across New England.”

”We were very impressed with Solect’s company culture and the similarities to ours. Once we decided to sell our Northeast division, it was a no-brainer to partner with Solect,” Brightergy’s CEO Adam Blake said in a statement.

Solect recently also announced a record-breaking year in 2016, with 115 sites and more than 26 megawatts in total solar output. The company also launched its solar services division and expanded into Connecticut and Rhode Island last year. With this deal, Solect will add 15 new employees, with a roster now totaling 75.
