A repositioning program by architects Perkins + Will transformed a Brutalist-style office building originally completed in the early 1970s, culminating in the relocation of email and data security firm Mimecast from Watertown for its expanded North American headquarters.
The 200,000-square-foot building’s opaque exterior mechanical shafts were converted into multi-story glazing, adding transparency and refined detailing with a modern, industrial aesthetic. The project included new amenities including a fitness center, cafe, roof deck and newly-landscaped patios.
The 5-story building previously was the regional headquarters for shoemaker Wolverine Worldwide, which relocated to 10 Citypoint in Waltham.
They Said It:
“Our goal was to make design updates so that it could compete with the market today outside of the city. At the property, there was an opportunity to create a brand new entryway and open up the façade, providing a tremendous amount of natural light.” — Robert Brown, managing director, Perkins + Will
