What: Alexandra Hotel
Where: 1767-1769 Washington St., Boston
Owner: Alexandra Partners LLC
Built: 1875
The redevelopers of the former Alexandra Hotel in Boston have received approval to rebuild and expand the property for a 13-story, 150-room boutique hotel with ground floor restaurant and cafe and a roof-level bar and restaurant.
Alexandra Partners acquired the Washington Street properties for $11 million in July from the Church of Scientology and received final approval from the Boston zoning board of appeals this month.
Designs by CBT Architects call for restoration of the 1875 building’s historic Ruskinian Gothic facade. The rest of the 30,000-square-foot building will be demolished to make way for the new structure, which will partially be built on a neighboring vacant parcel.
“This approval from the Boston ZBA reinforces what we have heard from Roxbury and South End neighbors and abutters at every stage of our planning process, that Boston wants to see a rebirth for a building that has been standing vacant for decades as a neighborhood eyesore.” — Thomas Calus, principal and founder, TCR Development
