Boston officials are joining Nuestra Comunidad Development Corp., project funders and community members to celebrate the start of construction on a parcel of land along Roxbury’s Blue Hill Avenue.
The property is the site of the former Kasanof Bakery. Nuestra expects to complete construction on the $22 million, mixed-use project next fall, bringing 48 new units of affordable rental housing and 3,500 square-feet of new retail space to Roxbury.
The development will be situated on the last large, privately owned vacant parcel on Blue Hill Avenue, a significant step for the city’s Blue Hill Avenue Revitalization Initiative that Mayor Menino launched just after taking office in 1994, according to a statement.
