Given the concern regarding the spread of the H1N1 virus, IC Federal Credit Union of Fitchburg has donated $5,000 to Community Health Connections Family Health Centers to help fund and host multiple H1N1 flu clinics.
This donation, along with other funding, will help the centers vaccinate approximately 10,000 people at the clinics, which began on Nov. 16, according to a statement.
"These clinics are what public health is all about," said Dr. Beth Kurtz-Mazyck, vice president of Medical Services for CHC Family Health Centers. "It takes multiple clinical staff, clerical staff and volunteers to successfully coordinate community efforts of this magnitude. We are extremely grateful to the IC Federal Credit Union for their contribution and for their commitment to community."
The H1N1 flu clinics are being offered for youth between the ages of 6 months and 18 years, in accordance with the Department of Public Health guidelines. Several clinics are scheduled for this week around the Fitchburg area, and future clinics will be scheduled for the general public as additional vaccine arrives. All clinics are free of charge.
"Serving the community means more than simply providing great financial products," said Anthony R. Cali, president & CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. "As engaged corporate neighbors, we have a responsibility to act when we see a need in the community. Ensuring that the children at most risk get vaccinated against this disease is something we can easily do, and we’re proud that we can help CHC Family Health Centers make that happen."
