The Massachusetts unemployment rate increased to 7 percent in June from 6.6 percent in May, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The month’s rate is also up from this time last year, when Massachusetts unemployment was at 6.7 percent. However, the state is still below the national unemployment rate of 7.6 percent.

Massachusetts added 2,800 jobs in June and 20,500 jobs in the first half of 2013. Over the year, the Commonwealth added 40,300 jobs, 37,400 of which were in the private sector.

The fields of education and health services added 1,300 jobs in June. Meanwhile, professional, scientific and business services lost 1,900 jobs during the month.
