A bill that revamps the management of the SouthField redevelopment at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station could resurface on Beacon Hill this week, lawmakers said Monday.

The House and Senate are expected to take up the legislation in informal sessions.

“We’re hopeful that the SouthField one will make its way through the final steps of the process this week or shortly thereafter if possible,” Sen. John Keenan, D-Quincy, told State House News Service.

The bill is designed to jump-start redevelopment of the 1,400-acre site covering parts of Abington, Rockland and Weymouth. The legislation would give each of the communities tax revenues from the portion of the site in their towns and puts them in charge of delivering municipal services. It would minimize the role of the South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp., a regional agency that has overseen the project since 1998.

The new management set-up is favored by Starwood Land Ventures, which became master developer of SouthField in 2013 after it acquired LNR Property Corp., the previous private investor in the project.

The current zoning would allow up to 2,855 residential units and up to 2 million square feet of commercial space.
