Boston-based contractor Lee Kennedy Co. Inc. recently topped off the new 122,000-square-foot Library & Learning Commons at Salem State University.

When it opens to students in the fall of 2013, the $60 million facility is poised to offer new archival space; circulation and reference areas; collections; reading spaces; study rooms; instruction labs and a Dean’s suite. Boston architect Shepley Bulfinch designed the space to meet LEED Silver standards, according to a statement.

The Salem State Library & Learning Commons is part of an active academic portfolio for Lee Kennedy Co. that includes the Berklee College of Music high rise at 160 Mass. Ave. in Boston; Fitchburg State University Hammond Campus Center; and UMass Lowell Fox Dining Hall renovations, the company said.
