Boston-based Liberty Mutual Group has donated $3.1 million to Boston College Law School, the largest sum in school history, which will be used to create the Liberty Mutual Insurance Professorship in property and casualty insurance law.

The gift, to be paid over the next four years, will be used to hire a "distinguished teacher and legal scholar with expertise in the field of property and casualty insurance," Liberty Mutual said.

Across the pond, Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe has appointed its first energy underwriter in continental Europe.

The insurer has named Didier Robin as vice president for energy and construction in Paris. This is the first energy underwriting appointment for the company’s continental Europe business, Liberty Mutual said.

Prior to Robin’s appointment, Liberty wrote its continental energy business out of London.
