A Waltham developer and Lexington apartment community have been named finalists for 2010 National Association of Home Builders Pillars of the Industry awards.

The DSF Group, based in Waltham, is a finalist for multifamily development firm of the year. Lexington’s Avalon at Lexington Hills apartment project, developed by AvalonBay Communities, is a finalist in the best adaptive reuse category for turning a non-residential product into rental apartments, according to a statement.

"Recognized as the industry’s most coveted awards, the Pillars Awards honor superior achievement in apartment and condo design, development, marketing, and management and are considered a showcase of future trends and innovation," the NAHB said in a statement.

"The ranks of this year’s finalists include a large number of green communities, transit-oriented communities, and buildings that have been given a second life as multifamily residences," said Charles R. Brindell, Jr., president and CEO of Trammell Crow Residential and chair of NAHB’s multifamily leadership board. "Many more designers have moved toward a clean and modern urban feeling that appeals to the next generation of renters."

Marketing awards are scheduled to be presented via an online ceremony October 21. Builder awards will be presented December 7.
