The lottery for Barstow Village, a residential development in Hanover that will provide affordable elderly housing to seniors 62 years of age and above, will be held next Friday.
Applications must be received by noon on Dec. 9. The development, created in partnership by the Planning Office for Urban Affairs and EA Fish Development, is expected for occupancy in the spring of 2012.
"We are pleased to be of part of such an exciting new affordable housing development," said Matthew Mittelstadt, managing director of EA Fish Development, "Our partnership with the Planning Office and strong working relationship with the town of Hanover was the key to expediting this project."
Located on a wooded 6.6 acre parcel owned by the Hanover Housing Authority, the new residential community will feature 66 units of senior housing with 77 parking spaces. The community will include supportive services and programs for residents that promote independent living and offer amenities such as air conditioning, a community room with a kitchen, laundry facilities, and outdoor patio and community space. The community will be ENERGYSTAR compliant and will incorporate green building design and healthy housing components, with the goal of achieving a LEED Home Silver designation.
"The Barstow Village development will fill a crucial need in the community by offering high-quality affordable housing where seniors can live in comfort with dignity and respect," said Lisa Alberghini, president of the town’s Planning Office. "We are thrilled to move forward to the next step in the process."
Those eligible for renting a unit in the community must meet income requirements of earning less than or equal to 60 percent of the area median income. Units range in price from $489 to $1,031 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,234 for a two-bedroom unit, with heat and hot water included.
