Officials in Westfield are preparing for the city’s next major road construction project, expected to begin next summer and extend into 2014 on Western Avenue, the Springfield Republican reports.

The estimated $2 million to $2.5 million project will be unveiled during a public information meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Highland Elementary School.

City Engineer Mark S. Cressotti said the project will involve new stormwater drainage, sidewalks, traffic signals, streetscape enhancements and paving. Also included will be widening at some locations to provide for left- and right-hand turns.

"We are looking at the next calendar year for this project to start. That will include some utility upgrades and the storm water drainage," he said.

The second year of the project will involve road improvements, traffic signal upgrades and some turning lanes, he said.

The work will run from Mill Street to Bates Road, which includes Stanley Park and Westfield State University.
