Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific plans to move its headquarters to Marlborough, shrinking its Natick location beginning in the spring of 2013. The company expects the entire move will be done in mid-2014, when it will have completed construction of an additional building on its Marlborough campus. Boston Scientific purchased its Marlborough facility in 2004. The expansion is expected to bring 800 jobs to Marlborough.

"Boston Scientific’s expansion in Marlborough is wonderful news for the city and our local economy," Tim Cummings, of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), said in a statement. "Companies continue to view Marlborough as an optimal location for their operations." Over the past year, several companies have expanded their presence in the city of Marlborough or announced plans to move there, including TJX Cos., Quest Diagnostics, OneShield, and Ken’s Foods.

Natick-based MathWorks is expected to purchase the entire 500,000-squarefoot Boston Science Natick facility, which it has occupied since 1995. Details of the arrangement are not being disclosed.

"A new global headquarters in Marlborough will more effectively support our long-term strategic plans," said Mike Mahoney, president and chief executive officer of Boston Scientific, in a statement. "Consolidating our Natick and Marlborough facilities is expected to foster greater collaboration and efficiency, benefitting our employees, our customers, and, ultimately, the patients they treat."
