The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) will celebrate the opening of the newly expanded and renovated Senator William X. Wall Experiment Station in Lawrence.
The state environmental laboratory has been transformed into a state-of-the-art "green" building thanks to a $30 million upgrade. The renovations have achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) status. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held and tours of the new facility will be offered this afternoon.
Philip Griffiths, undersecretary for environment at the Mass, Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs; MassDEP Commissioner Kenneth Kimmell; Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance Commissioner Carole Cornelison, Environmental Protection Agency Region 1 Administrator Curt Spalding and State Sen. Barry Finegold will be on hand at the ribbon cutting.
