MassHousing Awards $8.3M For Dorchester Housing Complex Upgrades

Nor-al Apartments

MassHousing has approved $8.3 million in financing for renovations and a 20-year extension of affordability at the Nor-al Apartments in Dorchester.

Nor-al Housing Assoc., an affiliate of Needham-based Wingate Development Corp., is refinancing and rehabilitating the 57-unit complex consisting of three buildings on Algonquin, Norfolk and Talbot streets. The renovations would be the property’s first since 1972.

Among the improvements planned for the property are new windows, lead paint abatement, energy-saving improvements and accessibility improvements, including the creation of two fully accessible apartments and a lift.

The Section 8 Housing Assistance Payment contract for the property has been extended for 20 years.
