The Massachusetts Bankers Association (MBA) and five partnering banks on Friday presented a financial education competition for Bay State high school students.

Eighty high school students participated in quiz-show program, Common Cents. It was hosted by JAM’N 94.5’s Ashley Feldman, New England Cable News anchor Latoyia Edwards and financial expert Jeffrey Fuhrer, executive vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and included a special guest appearance by former New England Patriot Jermaine Wiggins.

Partnering banks included Bank of America, BayCoast Bank, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, PeoplesBank and The Savings Bank.

Common Cents was produced in support of the Financial Literacy Pilot Program. The program, established in 2012, tests the potential viability of installing financial education programs in all Massachusetts high schools.

"Young adults, whether they go on to college or not, often struggle with their finances," Daniel J. Forte, president of the MBA, said in a statement.  "As a society we have to do a better job of educating our future consumers about finance."
