The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA) board of directors selected a team headed by CV Properties, LLC to develop two hotels containing a total of 510 rooms on land owned by the MCCA directly across from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
MCCA acquired the parcel of land in October 2012 and issued a request for proposals the next month. CV Properties, along with Starwood Hotels, proposes to develop a 330-room hotel, Aloft, and a 180-room hotel, Element.
The developer will be responsible for designing, 100 percent financing, constructing and owning and operating the hotels. Groundbreaking is expected to occur by the end of 2013, with the hotels opening in 2015.
The hotels are expected to generate more than $5 million annually in property tax, sales tax, income tax, and hotel occupancy tax, in a few years. Overall, the project is expected to create 370 construction jobs and 175 permanent jobs.
