Taunton-based Mechanics Cooperative Bank has committed to giving at least 10 percent of its annual net income to local nonprofit agencies.
The bank’s board of directors and top executives announced the program this morning.
The pledge covers agencies in towns where Mechanics has branch offices: Bridgewater, Dighton, Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, Westport and Taunton.
Bob Horne, executive director of The United Way of Greater Fall River, is a member of the bank’s board, the bank noted in its announcement.
Mechanics’ charitable giving supports agencies in affordable housing, and economic development, as well as education programs, arts and cultural programs and community sports programs.
