Mercantile Bank has promoted Marven J. Joseph and Matthew G. Verhamme to commercial lending officer and commercial credit analyst, respectively.

In his new position, Joseph will oversee all aspects of the loan application process, including soliciting new commercial real estate and taxi medallion loan customers, underwriting loan proposals and working with the bank’s credit committee. He will also coordinate all loan documentation and monitor all loan portfolios. Joseph previously served as Mercantile Bank’s commercial credit analyst.

Verhamme will be preparing credit analyses, performing industry and market research, along with analyzing appraisals, credit reports, flood certificates and certificates of good standing, and preparing quarterly reports and assisting in loan funding. Verhamme previously served as the bank’s assistant commercial credit analyst.

"Over the past 10 years, Marven has shown a willingness to learn all aspects of commercial lending, while further developing his excellent customer service skills," said Charles P. Monaghan, president of Mercantile Bank. "His promotion to commercial lending officer will further strengthen our commercial lending division."

He added: "Matt has done an excellent job for us for the past year. We saw in that time that he possessed the knowledge and skills needed to service our growing commercial base, and it seemed a natural to have him increase his responsibilities with this new position."
