Chelsea’s Metro Credit Union recently awarded more than $5,000 in scholarships to local high school students.

Metro awarded four high school seniors $1,000 Financial Literacy Scholarships at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. The scholarship is designed to honor students who demonstrated exemplary skills during their coursework in finance and business and during their internship at the Chelsea High School and Peabody Veterans Memorial High School branches of Metro Credit Union. This is the 15th year that Metro has offered this unique opportunity to high school students.

"Metro is proud to present scholarships to these deserving students. These students demonstrated their talents academically and in the branch, and we are happy to recognize their achievements," said Robert M. Cashman, president and CEO of Metro.

Earlier this year, Metro was the full sponsor for the Three Star Player Awards at Lynn Vocational Technical High School. Three students were recognized for their academic achievements, leadership potential and athletic ability. Additionally, Metro donated to the Lynn Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and made scholarship donations to Burlington High School and Winthrop High School.
