Two Worcester schools were given a boost by Millbury Savings Bank.

The bank donated $65,000 to the Quinsigamond and Vernon Hill elementary schools to help purchase learning materials. Quinsigamond School will receive $40,000 and Vernon Hill School will receive $25,000 over five years, according to a statement.

"We know that many teachers use money out of their own pockets to supplement learning materials in order to promote a nurturing and effective classroom environment," said Millbury Savings Bank Executive Vice President and Senior Loan Officer Robert J. Morton. "In this economy, it can be a significant challenge for teachers to divert part of their own household incomes for these materials."

"A company like Millbury Savings recognizes and understands the importance of not only investing in business development, but also the value in working with the Greater Worcester community towards fostering a stronger and more prosperous future for the Commonwealth."

The bank also announced plans for a future branch near Worcester’s Quinsigamond Village.

Millbury Savings Bank is currently working with the city and state to build a full-service branch at the corner of Millbury and Providence Streets, across from McKeon Road. Groundbreaking is expected next spring, with a potential grand opening in late summer 2011.
