Marilyn Newman, an attorney in the environmental section of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo P.C., has been named assistant vice president of government affairs of commercial real estate development trade association NAIOP Massachusetts.
The leaders and members of NAIOP’s government affairs committee formulate the organization’s government affairs agenda; propose and comment on state legislation, regulations, and policies; serve on public interest and agency advisory groups; and regularly contribute to white papers and special events on critical topics affecting real estate development in Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Chapter maintains three government affairs committees, including the environmental committee, the energy, infrastructure and economic development committee and the hazardous waste (21E) committee, according to a statement.
Newman’s legal practice in Mintz Levin’s Boston office encompasses a full range of environmental permitting, compliance, cleanup, and transactional issues, with a focus on the planning, permitting, financing, and construction of public and private development projects. She currently serves on the town of Brookline, Massachusetts Economic Development Advisory Board; is a member of the Boston Bar Association Environmental Committee; and has served as an appointed member of the National Transportation Research Board’s Environmental Law Committee.
