Mohegan Sun will host a series of community conversations in Western Massachusetts about its plans for a resort casino in Palmer.

The project would feature a 600-room hotel and spa, casino gaming and "internationally-known" and branded retail stores and restaurants, according to the casino. It would also create 1,000 to 1,200 construction jobs and 2,500 to 3,000 permanent jobs, Mohegan Sun said in a press release.

"With our first community conversation in Springfield, we hope to … provide a sense of the positive impact this project would have for the entire region," said Jeff Hartmann, chief operating officer at Mohegan Sun.

The first round is scheduled for Oct. 27 from 5-7 p.m. at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel.
