Nauset Construction Corp. of Needham has begun work on the town of Acushnet’s $4.3 million police station facility.

The 11,000-square-foot building will be located next to the town’s emergency medical services headquarters at 60 Middle Road, replacing the police department’s current location in an 1877 building. Designed by Foxborough-based Kaestle Boos Assoc., the station will house detention cells, booking areas, administrative offices, interview rooms, communications and dispatch rooms, lockers and a community/training/emergency operations center room.

Site work includes wetlands replication, upgrades to the underground stormwater retention system and utility connections. Completion is anticipated in fall 2015.
