Needham-based Nauset Construction has completed two new rooftop terraces on the second and 21st floors of the 321-unit Watermark Kendall West mixed-use community in Cambridge’s Kendall Square.
The second-floor terrace is built with an energy-efficient roofing membrane designed to resist exposure to chemicals, ozone and ultraviolet rays. Brazilian hardwood and concrete pavers were built above the membrane to provide seating and meeting space along with new badminton and bocce courts.
The 3,000-square-foot rooftop terrace includes Brazilian hardwood flooring, concrete pavers, seating and meeting space. Landscaping elements designed by CBT Architects of Boston include custom planters, living walls and drought-tolerant grasses and plantings.
The $1.5 million project also included renovation of four apartments on the 20th floor including the removal of ceilings to install a steel support system to hold the weight of the new terrace and new drainage systems.
