Neighborhood Housing Services of the South Shore held a grand opening for its new NeighborWorks Homeownership Center of Brockton.
City, state and federal officials, including Brockton Mayor Linda M. Balzotti, joined representatives from a number of affordable housing organizations to celebrate the center’s opening, according to a statement. The center is located at 68 Legion Parkway in HarborOne Credit Union’s MultiCultural Banking Center.
"Achieving the dream of homeownership is a milestone, putting supports in place to make that dream a reality empowers our residents and strengthens our community," Balzotti said. "Opening the NeighborWorks Center provides a vital informational resource for residents looking for assistance and puts them a step closer to that dream."
The Brockton center is the second certified NeighborWorks Homeownership Center south of Boston. The other is located in Quincy.
The NeighborWorks Homeownership Center will provide Brockton-area residents with expanded access to affordable housing services, including foreclosure prevention counseling that can help local families avoid foreclosure, according to a statement.
"At a time when Brockton is leading the state in foreclosures, this award from NeighborWorks America will allow us to expand access to our foreclosure prevention counseling services and offer a wider range of affordable housing programs to local residents," said Brian Moriarty, director of the NeighborWorks Homeownership Center of Brockton. "We’re pleased to be able to bring this critical funding to Brockton at a time when so many local families are at risk of losing their homes."
